What is the Junior Faculty Consortium?
We invite all IS Junior Faculty in Region 2 (Europe/ Middle East/Africa) to apply to participate in the Junior Faculty Consortium on 16 June 2024.
The Junior Faculty Consortium provides an opportunity for untenured faculty to discuss issues around advancing their career and becoming successful academics. The consortium consists of panels, discussions, and interactive paper development sessions and provides a platform for discussion on navigating academic careers as well as for networking with mentors and other junior faculty. A select group of highly successful IS faculty from universities around the world will serve as faculty mentors (mentioned below) and will share their experiences and advice.
The consortium will address various topics and related choices that junior faculty have to make on their academic journey, including publication and networking strategies, tenure preparation and career planning, work-life balance, managing co-authorships, etc. The workshop format will be very interactive to make the day fruitful and enjoyable for the participants.
Program and Preparation
The program will specifically include 1) a keynote speech, 2) panels, 3) plenty of networking opportunities, and 4) a paper development session (conducted in small groups). Once participants are accepted to the Consortium, they will be asked to submit a 4-page abstract of a working paper where they would like to receive feedback from the faculty mentors as well as other junior colleagues. More details will be provided once participants have been finalized. Please come with plenty of questions surrounding academic life, a working research paper, and an open mind.
Participation Criteria
Prospective participants will be required to apply for participation. Criteria for participation in the JFC will include faculty who:
- Have completed their Ph.D.
- Are an untenured faculty (including postdocs) in an academic position in the Fall of 2024
- Are AIS members and have registered for the conference
The number of participants is limited to 25 in order to maintain the richness and intimacy of the experience.
Application Procedure
Participation in the Junior Faculty Consortium is included in the ECIS 2024 registration fee. Interested participants must apply by 11 March 2024 via the following application form.
Workshop acceptance notification will be sent by 25 March 2024.
